Recap: Alain Vigneault’s Comments Today

Alain VigneaultAlain Vigneault met with the media today and SNY’s Michelle Yu was there:

  • On Henrik Lundqvist tomorrow against the Flyers, “he isn’t playing tomorrow. Cam is going tomorrow. I already told him that. He isn’t going to be the backup either. If this would have been a playoff game he would probably be playing. It’s something that is day to day and that we think that can nip it in the butt, maybe one more day, maybe two, but it’s something that he should be able to turn the page on never have to hear about.”
  • Who will be the backup, “Missiaen….Hank will be traveling to Philly.”
  • Has he been playing with this, “It’s something that he has had, maybe for ten days, but it wasn’t anything significant and he played real well in Washington and it acted up a little bit after the Jersey game.”

  • Is it an injury, “It’s an injury.”
  • Was it exacerbated in the last game, “when we got back the next day he felt it more and he consulted our doctors, they took a look and it had some irritation we decided to nip it in the butt.”
  • On Cam Talbot’s first start, “I told him that he is in tomorrow and to enjoy it. He has obviously been waiting for this for a long time and I he has played real well this year at our training camp and in Hartford. He is ready for this opportunity.”
  • What impact does a guy playing his first game have on the team, “I’m confident he is going to play well. I’m hoping that our players will rally around this young man, who is getting to play his first NHL game. It’s a moment he will remember for all of his life. Hopefully there will be many good moments after.”
  • On the forwards for tomorrow,”I haven’t made up my mind on the lineup. I have tried some different things. I will look at Philly’s last game and make up my mind tonight or tomorrow.”
  • Is DZ back in, “He is going back in.”
  • On the compete level, “Quite a few areas, whether it be the one on one situation, those 50/50 pucks you can win on faceoffs. winning the battle in front of your net and not giving a second opportunity or winning the battle in front of their net and getting the second opportunity. There are different components to compete level. One component is the consistency factor. If one thing doesn’t go your way in a shift our period you have to be able to push back and we have done for some period of time but not to my liking. The players aren’t pleased with how we are playing.”
  • Can you address that in a practice situation, “it’s something that we address everyday. It’s through practice, through video, individual meetings. Our group is aware of it and I am confident we will get through this.”
  • On the speed difference in the AHL vs NHL, “he has been practicing with us through camp, he has been in exhibition games, he has been practicing with us….no issues there.”
