Recap: Alain Vigneault post game comments

Alain VigneaultAlain Vigneault met with the media on MSG after the Rangers loss to the Flyers:

  • Did you sense the momentum change when they made it 2-1, “not really. We knew that they were going to come out with a good game, we had a good start, it wasn’t a lot of room out there in the first, in the second, this game can be funny sometimes, I thought t was our best period of the night. we had some grade A chances, the PP had some great looks, and they scored two and we didn’t. At the end they end that was the game.

  • On execution, “I thought in the third we could have played a lot better. I would rather give them credit, they had a one goal lead and defended well but our best period of the night is the second, where we generate the most Grade A looks and they score twice. When the other team makes mistakes you need to make them pay and we didn’t.
  • Do you agree with the embellishment calls, “it doesn’t matter”
  • What did you think of them, “you would have to ask the referees.”
  • Was it a strange afternoon, “it’s hockey, it’s playoff hockey. Every team is a good team, a fine line between winning and losing. Their first PP goal, goes off Kleiner, goes off Marc Staal and onto their guy’s stick and the guy has an open net. It’s hockey so we gotta get ready for the next one and move on from there.”
  • On moving up Brian Boyle, “just shortening my bench.”
  • On stuff after the whistle, “it’s tough to get away after the whistle when someone is kind (motions a headlock), until the ref comes in. We are trying to play whistle to whistle, that is what we are trying to do.”
  • On Marty St. Louis, “I thought that line had some good looks, they are our top players and had some good looks on the PP and the next time they have to put them in.”
  • Does this confirm to you that it’s going to be a tough series, “I don’t think it’s a surprise to anybody, two good teams and both have strengths and trying to both play to them.”
  • On the PP, “had some great looks in the second, grade A opportunities. Next game we gotta put those in….”

I'm shocked that Ryan McD allowed that first goal....he usually rides a player right to the boards but instead he went right around him.....the second goal was a lucky bounce right to a flyer nothing you can do about that....but this team really misses Kreider.....any other team we would be fine but against a tough physical team we need that extra muscle and speed.....and lastly I'll say it again we should buyout Nash instead of Richards.....he is a soft player and cannot create anything on his own or play physical....Richards may have a few extra years but he could still be a nice third line center 3 years from now and be a play maker....Nash will only turn into Gaborik....often injured and shell of his former self....
