fwiw, Boyd will be a Jet, and a good one.

I want Anthony Barr. I don't care what position he plays, he looks like Aldon Smith without the bombs.

@57 wouldn't mind that draft

Have no problem with Cooks or Beckham in first.   After that you've lost me.

We don't have the right mix of picks to move up economically, and Fuller simply isn't worth that kind of cost.   Too many other options at CB still on board -- Watkins, Baptiste, McGill, Exum, etc. who could do just fine.    I like Fiedo, but he's a poor man's consolation prize for not landing one of the top TE's, and he's really no upgrade over Cumby, which is the point of drafting a TE at all.

@a57se  Five picks to move up 15 spots in the second round? And Tajh Boyd at 137? Why. Just why.

@Marvel  The smokescreen is working perfectly!

@a57se Nope, you're the only fan with access to those. Tell us what to think, please!

Very realistic draft results

I take it Lee is gone by 18

LOL

@a57se

I can only pick them as the simulator offers them, but I guess as lots of players rise others fall.   Yankey could be one of them.   Always looking for road-graders on our OL.

My choice was between Lee and Moncrief...all the other likely WR's already gone.   Knowing how high I am on Donte, and how doubtful I am re Lee, it was a no-brainer.

Caraun Reid is a highly rated but developmental talent that  might be a nice chip for Idzik to have...remember our conversations a few days ago re the need for quality depth at DT, maybe trading Ellis, etc.

Brandon Thomas and Colvin start on IR here, so aren't on this year's roster, but both could be top quality, multiple position options in future.

You just questioned the lack of Jet interest in RB below, but if they have doubts about Powell or want to plan for future then Seastrunk might be nice fit.   DAT is what DAT is, and doesn't really count as a workhorse back.

@a57se

According to what's his face that's what happened this year. But there's no data for other years, like 2012 when Watkins wasn't a big factor. That 57% also only represents Watkins' receptions and not all of Boyd's throws. Whereas a real big portion of all Smith's passes were of the screen variety.

Brendan
Brendan

@Marvel  I don't think so? Boyd threw more of those easy completions. Over 50% of Watkins' passes were screens, weren't they? Austin actually went downfield on his routes.

Marvel
Marvel

@Brendan

 rather talk 2 yard passes to Austin??

Can't defend Geno then talk down Boyd... make ya look silly

:-)

juunit

@Brendan

Lower completion percentage by a couple points. Also threw down field more. I'd say they're fairly similar in terms of consistency with accurate passes coming out. I'd probably give Boyd the edge though. He lived on deep passes to Watkins/Hopkins.

Brendan
Brendan

@Marvel Isn't he a far less accurate QB coming out of college than Geno was, when you stop talking about behind-the-LOS screens to a top-5 pick, I mean?

Marvel
Marvel

@Bent @Brendan@Marvel

Give him 12 games to show he can be decent, I mean not a pick 6 machine .... like with Geno

@Brendan @a57se  if you have read Collision Low Crossers DT (went to USC) is pretty staunchly opposed to UCLA players - thinks they are soft. didnt sound like he was joking either

I think fuller is better than denard

@57 rather have dat over archer though

Brendan
Brendan

@Bent Boyd looks like he's just a more muscular guy and can probably add weight. I don't think Manziel can do the same, but who knows.

Bent
Bent moderator

@Brendan @juunit  He's got like an inch and 10 pounds on Manziel.  Is it unrealistic to suggest that maybe Manziel will become Johnny Fullback in a few years time?

Brendan
Brendan

@juunit  I might have mentioned this, but I basically programmed myself to dislike Boyd because of an insufferable Clemson fan that I know, so I started trolling this kid by calling Boyd "Clemson's Michael Robinson" and saying he's going to be a fullback.

But Clemson actually used Boyd as a short-yardage back, he's short and compact....I can see it happening. Boyd the FB. You heard it here first.

@Brendan

It'd be an interesting debate which QB had the strongest arm if we did draft him at least. Plus, we'd be able to say YEAAAAAAH BOOOOOOOOOOOOYD!

Brendan
Brendan

@juunit  I honestly don't care about the team taking him, just not in the 4th.

juunit
juunit

@Brendan

Yeah, we'll see. But if you really don't want him you should probably hope he does go in the 3rd or at least early 4th.

Brendan
Brendan

@juunit  Ah, found it. That straw poll was taken in January, well before the stuff I linked to. And as we know, under the microscope, Boyd's flaws were being picked apart. I think he's closer to a 6th rounder than a 4th rounder at this point, but who knows. It only takes one team to fall in love with a guy and overdraft.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se Yes. Uninformed.

"With three compensatory picks in the sixth round its easy to see Boyd being selected by the franchise."

Sorry I don't have time to sit and read every single report, but please shut up with the condescension. It's not like I pulled it out of thin air, jesus. And you wonder why people don't like you.

@a57se

Well they could be wrong. But they're pretty good with rumors and info kind of stuff.

juunit

@Brendan

It's in their draft rumors page. It was a little while ago so you'll have to scroll down a bit.

Brendan
Brendan

@juunit  When was this? I saw reports like 2 weeks ago talking about how he was being seen as a "6th - UDFA" type of player.

juunit
juunit

@Brendan

Walterfootball asked a bunch of teams about Boyd. Most said the 3rd round. I'd think if he's there in the 4th it's a lock we'd take him.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se But he stinks, so it wouldn't be good value in the 4th.

Bent
Bent moderator

@a57se @J. Smooth  Tony Pauline apparently reported that Rex told Boyd he'd "try to find a way to draft him".

The idea that ALL draft picks have to make a squad doesn't make any sense.   That's not reality.  Every team has wasted picks every draft.       That doesn't matter.  What matters is improving your team.

Hazard2012
Hazard2012

@Disgruntled Jets Fan @a57se

I don't expect all twelve to make the roster.  That's true of every draft class.   Competition will sort all that out.   But a lot of these guys will make the team, or make the ones who do make better for having been drafted.

Hazard2012
Hazard2012

@a57se @Hazard2012

That he dropped more passes than he caught, and didn't catch any at all this past season?  Not a problem to me.   I've said before that wasn't his role in the Baylor O, and he's showed nice, soft hands in his combine and workouts.

More importantly, with CJ and now DAT in the fold, re my draft, I don't care if he can catch the ball.   He might have fresher and better legs than Powell.    I would have taken Sims or Freeman first, be they were gone.
