Rick Nash

Read: Needing more from Rick Nash and what people are saying about him

Larry Brooks writes that, so far, Rick Nash has not delivered on why he was brought to the Rangers, which was to score big goals in the playoffs.  (NY Post)

Brooks says that Nash was brought in as the “missing ingredient” for a team that struggled to score in the 2012 playoffs but since coming to the Rangers he only has one goal in 16 playoff games. (NY Post)

Nash was his most effective in game three in the final minutes when, Brooks says, Nash was able to weave in and out of traffic as well as hold onto pucks. (NY Post) Nash fired a backhand shot that Joe Micheletti said during the broadcast was just inches past the far post.

Katie Strang (ESPN NY) writes that Nash’s “seminal” moment as a Ranger came in March against Columbus when he was engaged and had a “fiery performance.”

Ron Duguay said on Hockey Night Live that he isn’t sure Rick Nash has played enough in the playoffs to really understand what level he needs to play at.

Kan Daneyko said, “You get experience by getting more pressure situations, he has only played 20 games in the playoffs but he won’t use that as an excuse because he knows that he is counted on heavily to produce for his team. I know you can’t play every shift at full bore but that last shift was magical.”

Dave Maloney said, “he has to play with a determination and honestly I am not sure that it’s in him. He is the big easy, you need your top guys to play with that edge. You need your top guys to dictate the pace for your team. I don’t think that he looks at himself any differently it’s just a matter of can he get it done.”

Dugay and Daneyko agreed that on some shifts Nash just needs to be selfish with the puck and go to the net.

Brayden Coburn said that the Flyers are defending Nash by committee and their focus is on keeping him to the outside. (Daily News)

Nash said that all of the Flyer defensemen are playing physical, finishing checks and that the Rangers need to hold onto pucks and bump by them. (Daily News)

When asked about Nash on Saturday, Alain Vigneault said “Rick really wants to do well and he is trying every shift when he is on the ice to put his best foot forward. It’s a tough league and the opposition, when you have an elite player like that, has a plan and he needs to keep working, he needs to elevate his game. He knows he is a big part of us having success, winning games and moving forward. The one thing I don’t doubt about him is his willingness and he prepares himself well and it’s his time and our teams time. This is a team game and he is a big part of that and he is trying to do his best.”

At this point I think we should buy out Nash over Richards. Richards has been effective in the series.

I've been hating on Nash for a while now. I was all in favor of trading for a 40 goal scorer still in his prime. We gave up 2 very popular hard nosed guys along with Tim Ex and a 1st round pick. Dubi had lost his way with scoroing but he banged every shift. AA shot at the Tampa goalie (forgot who it was) nuff said. Thats what hurts the most. We lost some of the soul of this team. We didnt just lose money as if he were a free agent signing. Nash did a MSL before MSL did it where he forced the CBJ's to trade him to the Rangers. Where has Nash been when we neeed him? Down the stretch (last 24 games) he had 4 goals and 7 assists. 11 points in 24 games from the guy who was the missing piece? Thats not a clutch performance. If not for other guys stepping up we would not have made the playoffs. Now that we are in the playoffs Nash continues to flounder. 1 goal in 16 playoff games for us including the 4 this year. I dont want to hear about his secondary assists, he was brought here to score goals and make the players around him better. He shoots from the boards 40 feet away and hasnt seen the front of the net since February. Of course in game 4 with a minute to go we see what he can do. He drove to the net and had at least 3 chances himself to score. He carried the puck that whole shift. He own it. THATS the Nash I want. The guy who steps up and "I got this boys". But he has to do this for more than one shift and then disappear for the game. Dubi is playing his ass off for the CBJ's. He hasnt taken a shift off, why cant Nash play like that for the Rangers?? Come on yer prick prove me wrong and shut me up. Besides im running out of insults.
