Marty St. Louis’ early season report card, presented by Long Island University

Long Island UniversityMarty St. Louis has one goal this season but six points total and points in five of the Rangers seven games.

St. Louis has 10 shots on goal, 4 attempts that were blocked and five that missed the net.

Two of his five assists have been primary assists and he is starting 61.8% of his even strength shifts in the offensive zone. (Hockey Reference)

Asked about his point production, St. Louis said that he tries to create and score when he can but overall he just plays his game. (NYR)

Joe Micheletti said on MSG that moving back to the wing provides him the space he needs to make plays. Joe added that Marty’s anticipation and hockey sense when he doesn’t have the puck allows him to get into position to get the puck and then create plays.

Dave Maloney said that St. Louis is a first ballot Hall of Famer who does a lot of good things on the ice for the Rangers.

Rangers has won some games in a row right now, Islanders snapped a losing streak by beating the big bad Bruins, and the Devils has been slumping now since the hot start they had

The fact that the isles grade with a 5-2-0 start is lower than the Rangers with a 4-3-0 start is pathetic

The Rangers gave up a lot to get him. The production does not match what they gave up. What can save the trade is if the rangers do very well this season and Tampa struggles (which isn't going to happen). Then the Ranger would hand Tampa like the 30th pick, and Tampa gives the Rangers like the 40th pick. (The Rangers get Tampa's second rounder)
