Marc Staal chatted with some members of the Edmonton media this morning before the Rangers and Oilers game.
Staal will play in his second straight game tonight:
On how he feels, “I feel good. It was a good summer of training and getting geared up. I feel healthy and strong and putting one foot in front of the other and getting better every day and getting ready for the season.”
On jumping back into play in the middle of last year, “Anytime you have that much time off and jump back in it’s tough, with the extra time for everything to heal it was big for me.”
On the preseason, “you want to feel your legs underneath you and get into the groove. It’s good to get into a few of them to get the body used to game situations and get geared up for the season.”
On the biggest difference between the new coach and the old coach, “obviously they are different people with different styles of coaching and we are just getting to know the coaching staff and how they want us to play. It’s been a great couple of weeks to get acclimated to what they want to do. It’s been good so far and as a team we can keep improving and get better.”
Is it as different as the outside perception, “obviously it is. They are just two different personalities. It’s a different look of how to run and manage a team. We have enjoyed the first two here and will keep on going.”
On injuries and stepping up, “They are big parts that are out, early on we have a big road trip and we need to make sure that we are sharp and guys are playing well. A good start to the season is key and different guys in the room have to step up.R
