I am optomistic he will be useful. But it gives me pause that he wasn't signed right away during FA period and his price must be this low for a reason, as is the fact he's bounced around a bit. Though that may just mean other teams scouted and wanted him at trade deadlines a la dom moore

He has to be a good skater for Alain Vigneault's up tempo transition game. He doesn't just want his players to skate fast. He wants them to transition fast from offense to defense and head on the attack before the opposition can get into position. I think Stempniak will be a great 3rd line forward and he brings a righty shot the Rangers sorely need. He will likely get 2nd unit PP minutes and could have his best offensive production in years. He's definately a good skater and is quick as the wind. They also brought in Mueller on a 1 way contract meaning he will either go in the lineup as a RW or go on waivers and play in Hartford if he isn't claimed by another team.

@craig I don't really worry about players who weren't taken early in free agency anymore.  I think that may have more to do with the salary cap than players themselves.  Teams have certain players they want early on and have certain players they need to resign.  That, along with the cap, means some players will be available much later on imo.
