NEWS: JT Miller Is NOT The Team USA Captain

According to Kevin Allen of USA Today, Buffalo Sabres draft pick Jake McCabe will be the captain for Team USA at the World Junior Championships.

Allen says that JT Miller will be one of four alternate captains along with Seth Jones, Jacob Trouba and Cole Bardeau.

I don't want to make excuses for Idzik but if Millner and McDougle didn't have season ending injuries they might have had enough depth in the backfield to hold their own. I can't blame the GM because everybody got hurt.

I'm all on board signing a mid level free agent, drafting one of the top edge rushers (really high on Fowler), and evaluating corner in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th, depending on Harvin, whom I would keep.

Crazy how the Jets smartly didn't sign Flowers because Rex doesn't play zone and then ended up playing zone (poorly) because the Jets didn't have any man corners.

One NFC personnel director said he wouldn't take CB Marcus Peters "inside the first two rounds."

"I wouldn't take him inside the first two rounds," the executive told NFL Media draft analyst Lance Zierlein. "He's good, but he's not that good that I would be willing to deal with his emotional issues." The talented, but troubled Peters is the perfect definition of high-risk, high-reward type of player. Unfortunately, Peters was dismissed by the Huskies two games into the year in 2014, and only was able to suit up for six games the past two seasons. On the field, Peters has been considered one of the best cover corners in this year's draft. If a cornerback-needy -team is on the clock and Peters is on the board, it could be hard to pass on his talents in the back end of the first.

Speaking about Peters...

Citing anonymous league executives, Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reports there are teams "at the top of the draft" that would prefer Sam Bradford to Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota.

That's if Bradford gets cut. While it's not inconceivable that the Rams would cut ties with their 2010 first-rounder, it's still far more likely than not that he's back in St. Louis next season. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has reported the Rams would like to restructure Bradford's deal — which calls for $12.985 million in 2015 — but we think the sides can reach an accord. It's also highly dubious that anyone would actually prefer injury-prone Bradford to the draft's top two quarterbacks.

Bradford would be interesting but from this, it doesn;t seem likely.

@a57se Ah, we're into the time of year where execs and scouts drop ridiculous statements about how certain players are "undraftable" and others are "rising".

Can you post the actual links too, when you drop these blurbs?  Thanks in advance.

@a57se

Not sure it's all that dubious. Bradford has proved he can play in the NFL, Mariota hasn't and has high bust potential. Winston may kill people.

I could see some teams feeling that way.

Idzik I guess.

He would have either made a bad move that worked because everyone else sucked and they were forced into playing a style that suited the guy they made a bad move for ... or ... not made a move that it would later turn out in retrospect would have helped.

These Blurbs are from the Rotoworld news feeds. This one is from the NFL Draft tab and the one below is from the NFL tab IIRC...

I copy the whole write-up.

@juunit @a57se

If I'm not gung-ho about Winston or Mariota turning into elite passers and I can pass time for a year or two with Bradford for just money, I'd do that and draft a project QB lower in the draft.

@williamg1

That would be pretty hilarious.

I will contribute to the #firedolan billboard if you promise me that the letter on the billboard will be undercapitalized and underpunctuated.

@Bent Comic Sans with punctuation errors superimposed over a picture of Dolan's "blues face" that he makes when trying to hit a note while singing. It's uglier than you can imagine.
