  • 5:43PM: The interview has started with a listing of Lundqvist’s accomplishments
  • On being at Barneys earlier in the week, “it was a great event.”
  • On Regis’ horse, “outstanding. It was all about the finish.”
  • On playing at MSG, “It’s amazing. I moved to NY as a 23 year old. I didn’t know what to expect. It was a great challenge to move from a small town to the greatest city in the world. It’s been a great ride and I have enjoyed every minute of it.”
  • Lundqvist is given a Swedish chocolate bar
  • On Alain Vigneault, “i’m sure it will change a little bit. Each coach wants to change a few things about how you operate at the rink and on the ice. I’m anxious to see how we react. I think we have a really strong team.”
  • On who really annoys him, “The worst players to play against are the guys you know really well. You hear about it all the time if they score.  They send texts, they wait for you after the game.”
  • On who he fears the most, “every team has a few guys who stand out. The top in the game, Crosby, Ovechkin and Kovalchuk, but he went back to Russia, was one of the best 1 on 1. They read you, they study how you hold your glove or if you move to fast. They are skilled and it’s a challenge to stop them.”
  • On being a goalie as a kid, “you only think of the skill and technique but when you get older you realize the pressure part. As long as you can control your mind you are in good shape. The toughest part is to manage expectations and how it comes down to making saves under pressure.”
  • On shootout vs OT, “Both situations have pressure. The shootout comes down to what you can do as a goalie and the points are big. I feel the same pressure in both. It’s stressful but part of the game. I like that stress and that excitement, I’ve been off now and after a while you miss that pressure and the days when you feel a little low and heavy cause of all the pressure.”
  • On his idols growing up, “My first idol was Peter Lindmark, a Swedish goalie, then I started watching the NHL. Patrick Roy and Dominik Hasek. The way they competed was something that inspired me.
  • On last year, “it was okay but we hope for better. I think with a real training camp and a lot of guys were here last year, we can improve in a lot of areas. When it comes down to winning it’s about playing your absolute best in the playoffs. That’s what it comes down to.
  • Will AV make a difference, “I hope so. I really think he can help us take the next step. The last few years we have been moving in the right direction. Our first few years it was really tough to win, but the last 3 or 4 years we are moving in the right direction. I think this is the year.”
  • On Metta World Peace, “we haven’t met, but we have the same practice facility and we run into Knicks guys all the time. You stand in line waiting for your food and it’s a big shadow and it’s the basketball guys. They are nice guys.”
  • On the new Team USA jersey, “…..They are okay, they aren’t great. I loved the blue crowns that we have in Sweden.”
