Seems Brian Costello in tomorrow's NY Post, not only knocks Idzik as the G.M., but sympathy almost drips from him in Rex's case with his G.M.s.

Seems Rex knew his firing was inevitable with a new G.M. despite Woody (according to Rex) would want him for twenty years.

It occured to me,as a former Rex fan, that possibly with a few personnel tweaks ( a different G.M.), might have extended Rex's tenure.

As an aside, I thought Rex/Tanny would be a fixture on the Jets for years.

Rumor has it the Redskins may outright release RG3, should the Jets go and snatch him in that situation?

Pete 57

The Jets are changing the culture. Building something that could be what we have been waiting for since Parcells left. RG3 would be a step back towards the circus. Don't believe he's very good either.

@Pete 57 I don't agree completely with your statement. I agree with how the New staff is changing directions and changing culture, but if you do not acquire the best available talent, than you are doing your job as a GM. If the guy was released, you can offer him a non gaurenteed contract, meaning you can cut ties with him whenever. If he acts a fool and becomes a distraction, you let him go, if he doesn't meet expectations you let him go. I don't think bringing in a guy who was once neck and neck with Andrew Luck, a situation where it creates a circus. If he becomes a distraction and nothing is done about it then it does. But not to give him a shot would be neglect on the GM's part.

@Pablo Bruno @Pete 57

What would lead you to think that RG3 remotely qualifies as "the best available talent"?    His body isn't durable enough to play the only way he'd be an effective pro QB, and he seems incapable to adapting to a more conventional, pocket-passer style of play.

Part of being a good GM is knowing who NOT to sign...and Griffin, like Tebow...is a poster child in that regard.   He's radioactive.   Cannot imagine Macc n' Bowles risking what they're building here by going near this guy.

@Pablo Bruno

Don't think we need a 200 lb. quarterback who too often gets into the open field and has to face 250 lb. linebackers.  Especially a concussed one with a vulnerable knee.

We could have kept Vick.

How can he not become a distraction?

In any case, the jets, an organization desperate for stability at QB, has zero need for a QB who is always a play away from major downtime,

@juunit @Pablo Bruno

I'd bring him in if he accepted a minimum salary one year deal with no guaranteed money AND with an identical team option for 2016 AND if he publicly agreed to be the QB#3 and didn't expect to be handed the starter's job.

He'd never agree to all that, though, so no.

I and many NFL people, never considered RG3 anywhere near in the same category as Luck.

So when are the Jets going to bring in Nick Toon for a tryout?

Bent

@Pablo Bruno @Bent

FWIW Toon went on IR with a high ankle sprain, so we can't sign him.

Looks like Dashaun Phillips did too so that's another valuable $400K of cap space down the drain.

Soooooooooon.

Followup questions:

A.) Who is the greatest QB in Houston Oilers history?

B.) In the movie The Matrix, what kitchen utensil was not real?

@Bent @Pablo Bruno

Problem is, we're not going to give #88 to Nick Toon (or anyone else this year) while Amaro's still on the roster.  It would be considered impolite.  Teams don't give out numbers of dudes on IR unless that dude was a low-profile scrub or a guy who never played for us in real games.

Of the now six guys on IR, three of them (Antonio Allen, Jace Amaro, and probably Zack Sudfeld) are high-profile enough in the org (thanks to time served) that the team wouldn't re-assign their #39, #88, or #44 to another dude, even while they're out hurt.

(Numbers 32, 76, and 92 of Dashaun Phillips, Davon Walls, and Kevin Vickerson are probably fair game, though, except that 76 already also belongs to Wes Johnson.)

The Curse of #88 (which isn't real) lives on for another year, minimum.

@tsjc68 @Bent @Pablo Bruno

Obviously it's not real because CURSES AREN'T REAL but it is quite remarkable how literally everyone to wear that number has been a let down as a pass catcher in some way shape or form since Toon.

And I still fall for every big college receiver that can run and wears #88.

@Bent @tsjc68 @Pablo Bruno Just like the Madden Curse, every single player on the cover something happens to them, I'm not a believer in that sort of stuff, but it does makes one wonder.

perhaps but the Texans haven't fared any better finding a QB when Macc was there...

I do think we'd be a lot closer.

I'm taking a minute from my 9 month unemployment blues....I watched the Jets-Giants replay yesterday.  I really hope Owusu and Enuwa make the team.  I think with what could be the final disappearance of the ghost named Amaro, these two could be very useful in combinations to make up for the offense end of TE's and spread formations.  Just a random thought watching the game.
