4/10|9:13AM: Brassard says that sometimes their line gets put up against the other teams third pair and when that happens they are able to take advantage. (NY Post)
Brassard adds that there is no selfishness on that line and that when a player is open he knows he will get the puck. (Newsday)
4/9|6:35PM: Following the Rangers win over the Hurricanes, Alain Vigneault joked that the Benoit Pouliot, Derick Brassard, Mats Zuccarello line was the line that “didn’t want to score.” He added, “they had some great looks and it has some good chemistry 5 on 5 and on the PP and we need them to play that way.”
Dave Maloney said after the game, “they have been so much fun to watch. When the game is played well it’s the skill game and capitalizing on the small parts of the ice. This threesome has been by and large the Rangers best this season.”
Joe Micheletti said that it’s three unselfish players who are so fun to watch when they pass the puck around. He said that their chemistry is so good that when they get into open areas they don’t even need to look to see where they are.
Zuccarello says that the line is three guys who work hard and don’t think too much when on the ice.
2/10/14: Dave Maloney said on Hockey Night Live, “Zuccarello is a wonderfully patient and creative player and there is such a chemistry built between he, Brassard and Pouliot. I think that the three of them like one another, have fun with one another and Zuccarello makes so much happen out of nothing. I love his spirit and to me he drives the bus with this line.”
Marty Biron said that the line works “because they love the game, they are kids playing a mans game. they love being on the ice. They love skating together and I love the game of Derick Brassard, he makes everything, he dishes it to Pouliot and Zuccarello and they take it from there. They are just big kids at heart.
Ken Daneyko said Zuccarello is a little guy that they took a shot on but the other two were kind of reclamation projects and they are finally getting it.
Maloney added that Pouliot “has more confidence, he is harder on the puck, he is firm on the puck. Zuccarello can make something out of nothing and Brassard has wonderful vision.”
Joe Micheletti said that Pouliot “has fit in so well with that line and the way he goes after the puck and he uses his size and it’s great to watch.”
Pouliot told John Giannone after the Rangers beat the Penguins, “I am just trying to use my strength and body in front. I play with Zuccarello and Brassard and they are great players and if I can make room for them I will do that all day and you know they will put pucks on net and I just need to be there and sometimes like tonight they go in.”
