Recap: Alain Vigneault’s Pre-Game Commenta

Alain Vigneault6:57PM:Alain Vigneault spoke with Sam Rosen on MSG before the game:

  • On preventing a letdown, “Our players know that there are no easy games and that points are hard to get an important.  We have to battle hards, this team battled hard, they are trying to be more assertive and we will need to be the team that executes the best and works the hardest.”
  • What have you liked recently, “I like how we are playing at both ends of the rink. We have tightened up and offensively we are moving the puck better.”
  • On Hgs and Zucc, “both have speed, competitiveness and working defensively and offensively.”
  • On Rick Nash, “he has started to skate, it’s a process, it’s a slow process but you just want him to improve.
  • On getting antsy, “I am more focused on the players that are here. I work with healthy ones and when Rick is ready to come back we will be happy to have him. For now we will work with these guys and try to get wins.

5:21PM: Alain Vigneault, via the Rangers, met with the media following the morning skate:

  • On the forwards, “The 11 guys I have been using more on a regular basis. We played those 9 games in 15 nights and I think I spread the minutes around there.”
  • Was the plan to spread out the minutes, “Knowing that we had 9 in 15, that’s a lot of hockey so I wanted to spread them out.
  • On Mashinter, “Mash is a depth player that brings physical element. What I have seen from him, I have seen improvement and he works real hard and I have seen improvement that brings a physical dimension to our team that we need. We will see what he brings tonight.”

  • On the new Florida coach, “He was in Nashville. He and Barry Trotz worked quite well, I wanna say for 8 years. He is a real good coach and was in charge of PK and PP and really turned it around for a few years there. He’s a solid coach. I watched them yesterday. They want to be more aggressive, getting the D more involved. Being harder on the forecheck. They are physical and players want to prove what they can do.”
  • On playing a team with a new coach, “all our players are aware especially since we have one of the Dineens working for us. Our guys are going to be aware of it. It’s all of our jobs, the coaches and leadership to be ready and competing tonight.”
  • On the PK, “I prefer duos that are comfortable with each other and can read off of one another. You are always more effective when you can do that. With the guys we have had out of our lineup and all of the guys we have had out of our lineup besides Nasher are all guys I can use on the PK. It’s more challenging but Ulf has done a real solid job installing the principles we want and we will keep working. Zuccarello is someone we tried on the PK and he has worked out real well for us.”
