Recap: Alain Vigneault’s Post Game Comments

Alain VigneaultAlain Vigneault, via SNY’s Nick Licalzi, met with the media following the Rangers 2-0 win over Buffalo:

  • “First win at MSG.”
  • On how he feels, “I think our game has been getting better at both ends of the rink, we are doing the things you have to do to put some good performances together. We came out extremely hard and spent a good portion of the first two periods in their end. Their goalie kept them in the game. In the third period it seemed like our defense wanted to give Hank some work and they turned the puck over a few times but that is why you pay him the big dollars.”
  • “No, we were focused on going north south real quick, attacking their defense and making the right decisions and the right reads with the puck.We kept reinforcing that and We felt that if we did that we would get some chances and we would score some goals. Their goalie gave them a chance and he stayed in it.”

  • On the Boyle line, “they played smart, hard, they were physical and that is what we need.”
  • “I’m not exactly sure about the precision of the time on ice after the first period. We were all looking at each other saying it didn’t make sense. Maybe it was right but I strongly bet that it was…it just wasn’t right.”
  • On two wins back to back, “For us, that is behind us. We have gone through a challenge of that tough stretch and every day and every game we have been focused on that moment. We are trying to get better as a team. Some guys are taking some positive strides and there are other guys that still need work to help us win more hockey games.”
  • On Chris Kreider, “Like I said this morning, the Hartford coaches did a great job of being where he needs to be. Since he has been back he has been one of, if not our best forward, every game. Using his speed, size, going to the net hard and making it tough on the other teams D. He’s gotta keep it up because we need that from him.”
  • On only one PP against, “Yes and…because we had the puck in their end we forced them to take some penalties. Maybe it wasn’t as many as we would have liked but staying out of the box is a very important game.”
  • On the speed of Hagelin, Kreider and Miller, “Hags and Kreids obviously are pushing the other team with their breakaway speed. Miller has a tendency, because of his skill level tries to beat guys 1 on 1 and he is coming along fine.”
  • On Zuccarello setting the tone with a wraparound early on, “the last two games he has played extremely well, that line the last two games has generated some real high end chances. Him and Kreids using their speed and Step finding them it’s been a real effective line.”
  • On where the team is, “I am happy with the win tonight and I want the guys to focus on a good practice tomorrow and another good opponent in Carolina.”
  • On Derek Stepan, “I think the last two games he has been generated some high end chances. I am hoping sooner or later he will get rewarded for all his hard work.”
  • On Derick Brassard, “He has been playing well. I think he has been real committed to giving his best every game, some are better than others like with all players but I like where his game is right now.”
