Recap: Alain Vigneault’s Post Game Comments

Alain Vigneault

  • What stands out, “against a team like Detroit that has a real strong transition game. They are probably the best in the league at making the legal interference, you need to manage the puck to not feed their transition. I thought we were good at that and using speed to get pucks behind the D. I think we battled hard for the ice, they make it hard for you, they get in front of their net and then they driving our net, but we did a good job there and we were able to generate some quality chances and when they did get chances we got some big saves.”
  • On ending the road trip, (laughing)”what do you think? No, it’s going to be really good for us. It’s been a challenge. We don’t have the record that we want bu we have seen some strides in the right direction and I know that everyone is looking to get in front of our fans and playing some home games.”

  • Why was the forecheck better last night, “I think we got to pucks where we weren’t really forechecking. We were getting pucks behind their D and getting first on the pucks when we already had good offensive zone possession. We had a lot of guys stand out in my mind, Kreids tonight had a real strong game in protecting the puck, making it hard for them. Boyle’s line and Pouliot and Brassy spent a lot of time in the offensive zone. We made it hard on a real good team and a real good defense.”
  • On the guys who got their first goals, “it’s important not just for them but for our team. We are not scoring a lot, our second period could have been our best period of the year and we got out of their with a tie in that period since they tied it up late. We came out in the third, won it in the third and won it in OT.”
  • Did you say anything between the 2nd and 3rd, “we talked about a few areas that we wanted to keep doing and that is what we did.”
  • How did you create more traffic in front, “we talked about it this morning. You need to go to the tough areas. We showed a couple of clips of Detroit doing it and hopefully we took a page out of their book”
  • What do you mean by legal interference, “off the draws, skating, keeping your ice. They are real good at that. They make it real hard to get open ice and it’s hard. It’s positioning wise.”
  • On what he learned about his group on this trip, “I can’t point to one thing. As we move on we are all getting to know each other, understanding what the standards and expectations are. As a group, when I say we I mean management, players and coaches keeping the right work ethic and attitude and we will get where we need to be.”
  • Has Cam Talbot proved himself, “without a doubt. He has played extremely well in both games. He did exactly what a goalie is supposed to do tonight and give you a chance to win. When we had some breakdowns he made saves.”
