Alain VigneaultAt Canucks Army, Jeff Angus looks through the years at the amount of young players that John Tortorella inserted into the Rangers lineup and the amount of young players that Alain Vigneault inserted and helped develop.

Tortorella has said that one of the things he is most proud of his time in NY is how he helped to change the culture and infuse young players into the lineup on a consistent basis.

Derek Stepan, Ryan McDonagh, Ryan Callahan, Marc Staal, Dan Girardi, Michael Del Zotto, Artem Anisimov, Carl Hagelin all developed into key players under Tortorella.

Angus notes that Vigneault has been criticized for messing with the development of young centers Cody Hodgson and Jordan Schroeder, but that Vigneault helped develop Ryan Kesler, Kevin Bieksa, Alex Edler, Alex Burrows and that the Sedins (25 at the time) turned in their best seasons when he became coach.

Vigneault said during his introductory press conference that the Rangers have the right mix of veterans and characters players to develop young players “into men, into New York Rangers that have the right values, work ethic and commitment to the game.”
