While talking with Mike Francesa about why he chose to come to the Rangers, Alain Vigneault mentioned three different reasons.
- The first is that the Rangers are a good team and have a chance to win.
- The second is that it’s an Original Six team and being able to coach in a place that has the tradition the Rangers do was very appealing to him.
- The third is that he is a divorced father with two daughters that live in Quebec that he would get to see once or twice, if he was lucky, during the hockey season.
He noted that he has been away from them during the hockey season for the past ten years, with seven coming in Vancouver, two coming in PEI and one in Winnipeg.
Vigneault said that his girls love to shop and made their preference known of where they would like him to coach.
He said that he loves the idea that his daughters are only a one-hour flight away and that he will be able to be close to his family and friends.
