Brooks adds that McDonagh is likely going to sign a deal worth between $4.5 million and $5 million for a term that is between 3 and 5 years.

The date to file for McDonagh to file for salary arbitration is July 10th an if he doesn’t, the Rangers can file arbitration against him on July 11th. Filing arbitration against McDonagh prevents another team from sending him an offer sheet.

(7/3/13) 1:17PM: In a post to twitter, Larry Brooks writes that he spoke with Ryan McDonagh’s agent about the state of negotiations going on between him and the Rangers.

His agent said that there is still work that needs to be done to get McDonagh under contract.

McDonagh will become a restricted free agent on Friday and can elect to take the Rangers to salary arbitration.

It has been expected that Ryan McDonagh will sign a deal that has a cap hit over $4 million.
