Recap: Henrik Lundqvist on the Michael Kay Show

  • “Rule number one when you go to a hockey game, always watch the puck.”
  • “It has been a bumpy start. Yesterday was a big win. The PK was really good and special teams are important to have success. Hopefully we can build off that win.”
  • Torts Message, “He is a coach who likes to challenge players. I like that. I think important that we handle it the right way. We are close. There are small small details we need to correct and hopefully things will turn around.”

  • On the short training camp, “Looking at the start, it didn’t go our way but I won’t blame things like training camp. We are 10 games in and we just have to start winning. There are small details that we can and need to do better.”
  • On his game, “I think I have been “OK” but “OK” doesn’t win many hockey games. You are one or two saves a win from a win each game. Last nigh I played like I want to play. I just need to push myself to help the team every night.
  • On 48 game season, “When you get to Feb you know you are close to the end. There is a lot of energy every night. WE definitely feel the urgency right now.”
  • On JT Miller, “He handles everything so well so far. It’s not just that he scored, he handles everything in a good way and that is why he is getting more ice time. He is a really talented kid and it was a very special night for him last night.”
  • On being on the journey, “You use that as inspiration or motivation because you know how fun it was to be there. Just being on that ride and having that much fun, I definitely use it as motivation. You need to start over and not think about last year and expectations. We just need to focus on what we can control.”
  • On last year’s start, “Last year was a little bumpy for different reasons. We traveled and were a tired team. Sometimes it’s good to go through hard times early on to know how hard you need to work. I think it’s better to have it earlier than later.”
  • On the storm, “it’s all about being prepared.”
  • On the Muppets, “I knew about the Swedish Chef. The character was hilarious so I had a good time that afternoon.”
