Read: Chris Kreider Is Just Glad To Be Playing Hockey

Following his performance in the playoffs last season, Chris Kreider was expected to fill a top six role with the Rangers this season.

Due to the lockout, Kreider is going to play with the Whale and said said over the weekend that he doesn’t look at the AHL as a step down in his development.

“It’s still pro hockey. I don’t look at it like that. It’s still a huge jump up from where I played most of last year. I have to be ready and mentally focused.”

He added, “I’m here to play and here to get better. I’m a rookie. There is still a ton to be learned and I’m just getting my feet wet. It’s my first pro camp, so it’s difficult. It’s difficult for everyone but it’s nothing I have experienced before so it’s a learning experience.”

Adam Rotter: I think it’s actually a good thing for Kreider to start in the AHL. There is no doubt that he is NHL ready and if there was a season he would be with the Rangers, but he will get good experience and get to work on the other parts of his game with no pressure while down in CT.
